Project Summary
: As a part of our final year project, Himanshu and me chose to work together in our field of interest – click here Augmented Reality. We picked up the current E Learning scenario and chalked out a project plan to develop an online course using A.R Techniques to teach Solid State chemistry to high school children. In first of the two parts of the project i.e. seventh semester, we developed an AR based instructional android application for couple of the concepts of Solid States Chapter. Teachers interviews were conducted to validate the need of 3D visualizations in Solid States chapter and decide upon the content of the initial version of application. The application was developed on Unity3D in conjunction with Qualcome Vuforia AR SDK. 3d models were created in sketchup which were imported in Unity afterwards. To make the concepts easy to understand/learn, we used interactive elements such as animations, instructional audio in the background, virtual buttons (triggers on pointing finger to the related image) and on screen GUI buttons (to switch among different step of a concept).

here In next phase (Semester 8), we focused on improving the application and testing such a solution against conventional teaching methodologies such as print, web, classroom etc. Based on the quantitative analysis of results of our experiment as well as qualitative feedback received from participants during the experiment, we establish how A.R based tools have immense potential as self-sufficient learning modules and propose design inferences to be considered while designing AR based solutions.
